Location
Send Me St. Louis

We are excited to once again partner with the Lupton Center to help you and your church/organization move towards a more transformational ministry model.

This four-month, hybrid learning cohort will combine the Lupton Center’s “Seeking Shalom” online or DVD curriculum with three, in-person leadership gatherings hosted by Send Me St. Louis. These gatherings will focus on different aspects of how to lead change well, and will provide space to discuss progress and challenges, and share gained insights and encouragement.

*Please read to the end of this page for important information regarding participation and a link to download registration forms. The deadline to register is Monday, February 3rd.

Seeking Shalom is a six-part video series that challenges us to take a more holistic view of poverty, equipping teams to create real and lasting change. Hear from movement leaders in community development as you and your team are guided through core principles that help you move beyond meeting material needs to “seeking shalom.”

This learning cohort is ideal for churches/organizations who:
  • Are familiar with concepts introduced in books like “When Helping Hurts” and “Toxic Charity”.
  • Are currently engaged in serving the poor, marginalized, and vulnerable in their community and/or region.
  • Desire to expand the conversation regarding how to engage the community in healthy and holistic ways beyond a paid staff member or excited volunteer.
  • Are ready to start changing the culture of their church/organization to be more impactful in the community.

Hybrid learning format:

PART 1 – Online or small group DVD curriculum featuring six modules created by The Lupton Center (associated with Toxic Charity). This content is meant to help you and other key stakeholders learn about and apply a more holistic view of poverty alleviation and community engagement.

    • Each person completes the curriculum, but your team will be able to dialogue and share insights through the online platform.
    • There is an app on for your phone or tablet

Modules (Titles below are from the online curriculum. The DVD version will vary slightly, but the substance and flow are very similar):

      • Is charity working?
      • Why isn’t charity working?
      • What is poverty?
      • What’s the opposite of poverty?
      • How do we seek shalom (part 1)?
      • How do we seek shalom (part 2)?

PART 2 – Three, in-person leadership meetings facilitated by Send Me St. Louis for the leader (point-person) from each church/organization to encourage one another, share what is working, and discuss key challenges and obstacles. Also, this year we will focus on an aspects of leading change well/change management in each leader debrief.

    • At minimum, your paid staff/key leader needs to be able to commit to the three gatherings – 3/19, 4/30, and 6/11. If you are interested in an additional leader(s) attending, please contact Matt Miller at matt@sendmestlouis.org to inquire about space.
