Topic: The Softer Side of Working With Challenging Volunteers
In our November 2019 gathering of the Christian Volunteer Managers Network, Matt Miller from Send Me and Rebekah Miller from Lutheran Foundation walked participants through a high-level overview of working with challenging volunteers that focused heavily on strategies and practical next steps. There is a different side to this work, however, a “softer side” that involves cultivating skills such as conflict resolution, team-building, and culture shaping. Send Me is excited to host Julie Strassman – Volunteer Coordinator, Bereavement Assistant, and Spiritual Counselor at Bethesda Hospice Care – as she helps participants go deeper into these critical skills needed to work with challenging volunteers.
Julie Strassman is an experienced volunteer engagement professional and educator, dedicated to helping organizations build mutually beneficial relationships with volunteers. Julie has served on the Board of the Metropolitan Volunteer Management Association (MVMA) and the Certification Committee for the United Way of Greater St. Louis’ Volunteer Center.
